Jurassic Park Survival | Answering the Long-Standing Yearning for an Alien Isolation Sequel

The Jurassic Park Survival Trailer

Fans have been enthralled by a captivating trailer for the upcoming Jurassic Park Survival game, which highlights Saber Interactive’s attempt to create a terrifying dinosaur experience. This enticing peek at “Jurassic Park Survival” offers a close-up view of Isla Nublar after the dramatic events of the legendary 1993 film.

Ever since I was a youngster, my fantasies have often included Jurassic Park Survival—an interactive adventure in which building theme parks or just killing dinosaurs is swapped out for an engrossing journey through the turbulent story of the cult classic. Imagine yourself hidden in a kitchen while velociraptors swooping in,praying that a misplaced ladle won’t betray you and the cold, unforgiving tile floor. Imagine running out through the famous gate and finding yourself face-to-face with a hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex, knowing that your only chance of survival could be to remain still and ignite a flare. Even though Saber Interactive’s teaser mostly features fan service with a horror theme from the first movie, it does a fantastic job of capturing the spirit of what this game is all about, and it really gets me excited.

Most importantly, Jurassic Park Survival quickly made comparisons to Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation. I’ve been arguing for years that Jurassic Park would be a perfect fit for this kind of paradigm change, where a variety of dinosaurs, each capable of unrelenting pursuit, replace the tenacious Xenomorphs. With no way to defend themselves and probably little experience with a gun, gamers would be forced to solve riddles, come up with creative escape plans, and outwit their scaly opponents.

The story nearly writes itself, and even if the finished work doesn’t fully embrace the survival horror genre, I still think Saber did a great job with this premise. ‘Action-adventure,’ according to the official release, suggests that firearms or, at the absolute least, a way to repel swarms of dinosaurs may be there. But the teaser skips over that part and instead focuses on the loneliness and fear of being alone on an island full of dinosaurs, all of whom have a huge appetite.

The only time we see real gameplay is at the very end of the teaser, where we see the main character, Dr. Maya Joshi, left alone on Isla Nublar just after Alan Grant and friends made their getaway. There’s merely a sodden banner waving in the breeze, but dinosaur bones scattered all around the visitor center plaza bear witness to moments seared in our memory. Maya is hurt and holding her side in pain as a group of dinosaurs approach, some of which are interested in her and some of which mark her as food. Full of fan service, but with constant suspense in that classic Spielbergian way, it keeps us on the tip of our seats. Excitement is growing for the real deal.

Survival will always depend on the whims of nostalgia, and one of its main strengths may be using the subversion of the familiar from a movie that has been seen hundreds of times. A vast island filled with identifiable sites and sentient dinosaurs turns the dying attractions into the foundation of an engrossing simulation, complete with dead employees, handwritten messages, and intriguing hints pointing to a deeper story. Our main goal is still to survive, but that won’t stop us from taking in the view or moving slowly through the park to avoid being seen.

Even while I enjoy virtual travel, what I want is to be put in situations where the only option is to flee quickly from an unidentified threat. In addition to a constant feeling of dread and plenty of fan service, being acutely aware that one mistake may send me straight into the teeth of an apex predator adds another level of horror. Jurassic Park Survival may provide an experience that goes above and beyond the standard licensed fare.
